About Gaskatel

More than 25 years of experience in electrochemistry!

Welcome to Gaskatel

We would like to introduce ourselves so that you know who you are dealing with.

We are a small company based in Kassel. Nevertheless, we supply industrial companies, research institutes and universities worldwide. We are actively supported in this by our sales network.

Orders can be placed conveniently and easily around the clock via email or in our user-friendly online shop.

Our customers particularly value the competent advice provided by our team of experts. Because our motto is:

Service makes the difference!

Do you have a problem or a question about your measurements or our products? Our motivated team has many years of experience in the field of electrochemistry and is committed to providing you with a satisfactory answer.

Contact us!

We not only use this experience to provide competent advice, but also incorporate it into our products. And because we developed them, we know what we are talking about when you request support by phone or email.
We do not stand still and are constantly developing new products, also at the suggestion of our customers.

If you would like to benefit even further from our expertise and many years of experience, we would also be happy to carry out your tests and interpret the results for you.

Our Mission: Understanding Electrochemistry

This is not so easy with a subject that includes physics, chemistry and process engineering.
At Gaskatel, we have embodied this interdisciplinarity for more than 25 years.

Our desire to understand electrochemistry is reflected in our products of measurement technology: reference electrodes, pH electrodes and measuring cells.

Our hydrogen reference electrode is the only commercial electrode in the world that complies with IUPAC regulations. Of course, it corresponds to the ideas of its inventor, Nobel Prize winner Walter Nernst.

Our hydrogen pH electrode actually measures the proton concentration and not the voltage drop across a glass membrane.

Our corrosion test cell maps the actual current density or corrosion rate.

Gaskatel GmbH was founded in 1997 by members of Prof. Winsel’s working group at the University of Kassel.
Since that time our team of physicists, chemists, engineers and lab staff is engaged in the development, manufacturing and sale of products made for electrochemistry.
From the analytical measurements we try to develop a comprehensive picture of the customer’s problem.

Performing electrochemical measurements is challenging. We do our best to make it easier for you.

In electrochemistry, the chemical redox reactions are divided between two electrodes connected by an electrolyte and an electrical conductor.
Although the reactions are spatially separated, they are not independent of each other. This prevents the system from being arbitrarily simplified, as is common in physics.

One way to achieve this is to introduce a third measuring electrode - the so-called reference electrode. This was assigned to the hydrogen electrode by the IUPAC in 1953. This is referred to as a measurement with a reference value.
This is very common, for example, with temperature. Here, the zero point of 0°C is defined as the state of frozen water. Another example is the water level at a distance above sea level.

Using a reference electrode and a potentiostat that sets the desired reaction at the anode or cathode, the electrochemical reactions can then be investigated quite precisely.
But even here, the system is not completely independent. To decouple this, special measuring cells are required.

Gaskatel has developed such a test cell.

Nevertheless, electrochemistry remains challenging because the charge carrier concentration and charge carrier mobility of the electrolyte vary enormously, by about 16 orders of magnitude.
